Lion Dr Shafi Bhuiyan MBBS, MD, MBA, PhD is a Charter President of Toronto Global Lions Club and Zone Chair (7B) for 201802019, Lions Clubs International District A711. He has been involved in Lions Clubs to support community and develop youth leadership as a front line worker since 1986 . 

Lion Dr Bhuiyan is passionate and also committed to humanatarian assisatnce, human security and women empowerment through better education and healthcare services. He held many leadership positions with Leo Clubs, Leo Ditrstrict Council including Charter Club President and Secretary. He also led Leo District Council as Leo District President (Dist. 315A, in 1991) and Co-chair of Youth Excange and Leo Club Advisor under Lions Dist. A 711 ON during the year 2012-2014. 

He attended many International youth exchange programs, Lions forum, workshops and conferences in USA, Canada, Japan, Korea, Australia, Thailand, India and Bangladesh. Lion Dr Bhuiyan recruited over hundreds of Leos and Lions member globally and established 2 Leo Clubs and 2 Lions Clubs (1986- 2018). He is a champion of building human capacity and leadership development through education, healthcare research and training both locally & globally. In 2018, he received South Asian Leadership Excellence Award in Canada by the Council of Agencies Serving South Asians (CASSA) and also nominated as a finalist of RBC’s Top 25 Immigrant Award in Canada

He is a Distngusiged visiting professor, Faculty of Community Services and Co-founder of internationally trained medical doctors (ITMDs) post-graduate bridge training program at the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education, Ryerson University. He is also Asst. Professor of Clinical Public Health and Co-creator of MScCH (Community Health) at Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto.

In 1998-2000 he served as lead liaison between Govt. of Japan and Bangladesh to develop Maternal and child health training institute in Dhaka; and 2001-2004 he developed MCH handbook system to empower women’s and their families for better health in Bangladesh. Lion Dr Bhuiyan was a JSPS scientist at Osaka University Japan for international cooperation for health care development and co-created international committed on MCH Handbook to support global maternal and child health development in 2009.

Lion Dr Bhuiyan currently Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR). He is also the founder of the Internationally Trained Medical Doctors Canadian Network (ICaN) and the Toronto Global Doctors Lions Club, and board of directors of the Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre (BBNC) in Scarborough South West, Ontario, Canada.
